About Cardiomyopathy

Cardiomyopathy is a chronic disease of the heart muscle that makes it harder for the heart to pump blood to the rest of the body. It can lead to heart failure and other complications.

Types & Variants

  • Dilated Cardiomyopathy

    The heart's main pumping chamber (left ventricle) becomes enlarged (dilated) and can't pump blood effectively. It's the most common type.

  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

    The heart muscle becomes abnormally thick, which can make it harder for the heart to pump blood and may cause electrical problems.

  • Restrictive Cardiomyopathy

    The heart muscle becomes stiff and less flexible, so it can't expand properly and fill with blood between heartbeats. This is the least common type.

  • Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy

    In this rare type, the muscle tissue in the right ventricle is replaced by fatty or fibrous tissue, leading to problems with heart rhythm.
