Types & Variants
First-degree burn

Second-degree burn
Affects the epidermis and the second layer of skin (dermis). Causes blisters, severe pain, and swelling. The skin may appear red, white, or splotchy.
Third-degree burn
Destroys the epidermis and dermis and may go into the innermost layer of skin (subcutaneous tissue). The burn site may look white, leathery, or charred. There may be little or no pain due to nerve damage.
Fourth-degree burn
The most severe type, extending through the skin into deeper tissues like muscle, tendons, or bone. These burns are life-threatening and result in extensive damage.
